Well, we did it, 300 kilometres in 30 days!
An amazing 67 people joined in with the Oasis Coast-to-Coast Virtual Challenge in September where we set out to make our way from St Bee’s in Cumbria over 3 National Parks (The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors) arriving in Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire. Together we ran, swam, walked, cycled and galloped a total of 13,733.64 kilometres, which is the distance of coast-to-coast across Canada and back, what an achievement!
We have been cycling along coastlines, walking the legs off dogs, running through parks, galloping up sand tracks, ambling around our local areas, swimming in open water; and/or in teams with family and friends (socially distanced of course!) all in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales & France!
The longest run in one day was 57km, the longest bike ride was 97KM, and the shortest number of kilometres covered in a day was 0.6km! One of our participants completed 300k by walking after having a knee replacement and having her bike stolen at the very beginning of the challenge!
Take a look at some great photos on beaches, of the Pyrenees, Giant’s Causeway, on a tandem, on a horse, on local cycle tracks, in parks and gyms.
Many have said how much fun they’ve had taking part in the Coast-to-Coast Challenge and that it’s made them do some exercise and feel better for it! Actually, a number have said how sad they feel that it’s all over!
Here’s what some of our team said…”It hasn’t always been easy but with a little help from friends, family and four-legged friends, I smashed it, can’t wait for the next Challenge!” and…. “The dogs are loving it!” and…”Team ‘Back-to-Back Coasters’ managed to hit 1,413.3k in the end, so, back-to-back and back-to-back and back again!!!”
We have raised an AMAZING £9761 and all of us at Oasis would like to say a massive THANK YOU to everyone that has taken part and to those of you that have kindly donated.
Every penny from our coast to coast challenge will help fund our frontline crisis support service RE-BUILD helping people struggling with poverty, mental health and addiction.
Your money will go a long way to restoring broken lives amongst some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged people in East Manchester and beyond, particularly at this difficult time….. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
